KIDS FIRST AND PARENTAL RIGHTS
I believe that every decision the school board makes should put our kids first. I will never put the financial or political wishes of special interests over the well-being of our students and schools. All students should be provided a safe and comfortable environment in which to learn. Respecting parental rights and providing ample opportunity for parents to be involved in their children’s education is critical to student success (See Education Code 51100).
My education in the medical field, as well as my experiences with educational enrichment, has taught me to focus on real numbers and replicable evidence. I will require proof that important resources, such as programs, textbooks and support services, are producing the best results for our students. I will ensure that our district’s annual budget of $185MM, of which 85% is used for salaries and pensions, is spent wisely and frugally. I will require data and facts to ensure that every dollar of the $197MM bond, paid for by our community, is being properly spent on the most critical repairs and updates to our 27 schools.
SAVE NEIGHBORHOOD SCHOOLS/SAVE TEACHER JOBS
District projections show that our enrollment has been declining for a decade and will continue a steady decline of more than 200 students per year which will force school closures.
Because enrollment is tied to funding, the only way to save each neighborhood school is to increase enrollment and with only two-thirds of local students attending a CVUSD campus, there is ample opportunity.
By understanding the needs of the thousands of local families not choosing our schools and then working to ensure that more flexible, individualized and innovative programs and solutions are provided by our district, we can serve even more families in our community. We can’t please everyone, but we can definitely please a sufficient number of families to save ALL our schools.
Together we can ensure the bright future of our schools. I would be honored to have your vote.
